AND THE WINNER IS-review of Five Brands of Towels
While replacing all of our bath towels in Oct., 2015, five brands of towels, all highly rated on 2DayDeliver were purchased. Not being able to see or feel the towels firsthand was problematic-others’ reviews played a big part in the choices made. “Thick and luxurious†is an individual viewpoint. Overall, all five brands fit this description. All are soft, reasonably thick, and absorbent.
All were initially washed in the same way: Step 1, Warm water with one cup of vinegar, nothing else, no drying them yet; Step 2, Warm water using half the normal amount of soap, one fourth cup vinegar in the softener dispenser, and an extra rinse. They were dried on low heat in 15 minute increments, cleaning out the lint trap every 15 minutes until dry. New towels lint--period, just like most leaves on trees eventually fall off the tree. Address it on the first few dryings, much less lint later!; Step 3, Final wash of warm water, half the normal amount of soap, one fourth cup vinegar in the softener dispenser, and an extra rinse. They were dried on low heat in 20 minute increments, cleaning out the lint trap every 20 minutes until dry. All are now washed in hot water with a small amount of bleach crystals to sanitize thrown in the tub, 2/3 the normal amount of laundry detergent, one fourth cup vinegar in the softener dispenser, and dried on low heat. No vinegar smell persists, and all are still soft and absorbent. There is NO excessive lint.
My reviews and ratings-
*5 STARS. Pinzon 820-Gram Luxury Cotton Hand and Bath Towels, White; Soft and smooth, tightly woven, VERY thick towels. Put the bath towels out for my husband, they are too heavy and cumbersome for me. Cannot get my ears dried out! The hand towels are a nice 20†by 30†size. They both take very long to dry, so I tend not to use the hand towel very often. No pulled threads or unraveling seams after almost four months of constant use.
*5 STARS. Turkish Luxury Hotel & Spa (Salbakos) Bath and Hand Towel- 100% Genuine Cotton from Turkey - 700gsm Organic Eco-Friendly, White, Sold by: American Linen; (Similar to the LUNASIDUS Bergamo, Luxury Hotel / Spa towels) Soft, thick and fluffy towels. A daily go-to towel bath towel for my use. Didn’t get washcloths in this brand, but did get their hand towels. The 16†by 30†hand towels are now 15†by 28 ½â€, still a reasonable hand towel size. I initially thought the hand towels did not feel as thick as the bath towels. I sent an inquiry through 2DayDeliver, and received a reply that someone would get back to me within 24 hours. Never heard from them! But, they seem fine now. Just wish the hand towel was 18†by 30â€, it would be just about perfect and worth a little more money. No pulled threads or unraveling seams after almost four months of constant use.
*4 STARS. Superior 900 Gram Egyptian Cotton (6-Piece Towel Set), White, Superior. Soft and smooth, tightly woven, VERY thick towels. Again, my husband gets this bath towel. I donated the 2 washcloths, they are just too thick for practical use. Generously sized hand towels, 20†by 30â€, but again, they take SOO long to dry that they’re not used very often. One side seam on one bath towel is unraveling, and I am not even going to try to sew this extremely thick towel-going to the rag bin. No pulled threads after almost four months of constant use.
*4 STARS. LUNASIDUS Bergamo, Luxury Hotel / Spa Washcloths, Bath and Hand Towels, 100 Percent Turkish Cotton, White; (Similar to the Turkish Luxury Hotel & Spa (Salbakos) towels and washcloths) Soft, thick and fluffy towels. A daily go-to towel bath towel for my use. The wash cloths are thick, but can still be used to wash your ears. These towels and wash cloths ALL have a large, synthetic fabric label, PLUS a paper type label, and both labels are irritating on your skin. Finally just cut them both off. The hand towels that started out as 16†by 30†have shrunk down to 13 ½’ by 26â€, they’re bordering on too small. One of the 6 hand towels has a pulled thread in the middle of the towel about 2 inches long.
*4 STARS. Fecido Deluxe Hotel & Spa Extremely Absorbent 100% Cotton 4-Piece Towel Set, White Bath, Hand, Fingertip Towels and Washcloths; Soft and fluffy towels, a little thinner than the other four brands., but still absorbent. They are a very brilliant white compared to the other four brands. One end seam on the HUGE (39†X 19†hand towel!) unraveled, but Fecido responded promptly. I just kept the towel since I’d already sewed it up the seam.
After four months, the two winners are the two brands that have not had any issues-Pinzon by 2DayDeliver and Turkish Luxury Hotel & Spa (Salbakos) from American Linen. 820 grams is just two thick a towel for my personal preference, and takes too long to dry, but my husband likes them. And after four months, I would probably purchase nothing but these two brands, so my husband can have the heavier towels and I get what works for me.
I’ve attached a few pictures showing various sizes on the hand towels, a ripped seam, a hanging thread, and the thickness of the bath towels.. Overall, sight unseen, quality bath towels. Depending on your budget and personal preferences, I’d recommend any of these 5 brands of towels.

How this towel stacks up in my quest for the ultimate towel
*** See revision at the bottom from Feb 2013. ****
Benefit from my shopping around for the ultimate towel. Here's some comparisons. Each one has different pros and cons...I purchased white towels in each category so I can't comment on color-fastness.
THIS TOWEL...(((2DayDeliver: Pinzon Luxury 820-Gram)))
Heavy weight towel. Very well made. Would definitely last a long time. The cloth is very dense. However this towel is not soft. It would probably last the longest out of any of them, but too rough for my taste.
---Scroll down for revision from 2013. This changes over time/use of the towel.
(((Overstock: Luxury 800-Gram Egyptian Cotton)))
Tied 1st place for my favorite. Heavy weight, thick, and soft enough. The loops are a little bigger than amazon's pinzon 820 and make it softer than that one. I will buy this one again to account for 3/4 of my towel stock. Even though it is heavy I could still wrap it around my body and my hair.
(((2DayDeliver: Pinzon 800-Gram Rayon Derived from Bamboo)))
This towel tied for 1st place for my favorite, but not everyone in my family likes it. It is very heavy weight. It is the softest, silkiest towel I found on my quest. WOW! So silky in fact that some people may not like it, so it will only be part of my stock. It is too silky and heavy to stay wrapped around your body or head. It holds ambient room temperature, which in the winter makes it feel colder than other towels. But it is so soft and heavy it is almost like a blanket. This to me is the most luxurious towel, because I want a heavy, super soft towel.
(((The Company Store: Bamboo/Cotton Towel)))
This towel would be a nice compromise for softness versus weight. It is the next softest after amazon's pinzon bamboo. It is the lightest weight out of the bunch. It will stay wrapped around you and won't feel too heavy on your head. Everyone in my family liked this one. However I was looking for a heavier weight towel, so I did not buy these again.
A note on laundry issues. All these towels absorb water well. I didn't find reviews based on laundry issues helpful. These will take longer to dry than thinner towels, however even the heaviest ones didn't take more than 45 minutes for me. If drying is taking too long, I would suggest to make sure you are not overfilling the dryer. Try adding dryer balls (or tennis balls or a dry towel) in with the load. Clean out your lint trap (the one that hooks to the wall). I didn't experience any unusual lint problems. Don't use fabric softener. It puts a slippery coating on the fabric that lessens the towel's ability to absorb water. I have a front load, high efficiency washer and I found that because these towels absorb more water that I had to use the 'extra water' setting and less detergent in order to get all the detergent rinsed out so they weren't scratchy.
*** Revision Feb 2013 ****
Above is my original review shortly after purchasing all of these towels. I wanted to come back and add a note to this about how the towels have held up. It has changed my recommendation on first place. My first place is now this towel - (((2DayDeliver: Pinzon Luxury 820-Gram))). Reason... it has held up better than the other towels. Also it seems to have softened a bit with use - maybe the fibers relaxed a bit. Not sure. But this towel is now nicer than when I first bought it and I continue to reach for this one. This is the bulk of my towel stock now.

Superior 900 gsm Pinzon 820 Salbakos luxury towel
I decided to replace my towels recently and after reading reviews bought three types.
Superior 900 gsm
Salbakos luxury towel.
They all were great towels but the superior 900 we're my favorite. I personally rated them in 3 categories. Absorbency, softness, overall feel and weight.
Absorbency- superior and pinzon were better than salbakos. Salbakos actually pushed water around a bit to much for me.
Softness- salbakos was first it was incredibly soft. Superior next, still very soft, pinzon third, soft but not as much as the others.
Overall feel heaviness- superior first, pinzon next, salbakos third. This was very close all seemed to be made well.
Overall I liked superior the best it really is a great towel. I could see how some people might find it a bit heavy but for me it was perfect. All three were great towels though and you couldn't go wrong with any of them

HUMONGOUS, AMAZING towels that can easily absorb more than you will ever need it to.
I am persnickety about linens to say the least, and I have finally found the perfect towel.
I am a Big Beautiful Woman, and I like to take long hot showers with fine imported toiletries before wrapping up in a big fluffy warm towel - this is not an easy feat when you're big warm and fluffy yourself.
Enter: The Perfect Towel
*Angels Singing Angelically*
It's got it all: weight, girth, height, warmth, softness, it'll do everything but your taxes.
I wanted to see just how much water these bad boys could absorb, so I took not one, not two, but FOUR showers in a row, and when I say I was dry as a desert after toweling off for the FOURTH TIME I am not kidding you.
It is mid-August here in South Florida, so being moist is kind of an accepted state of being here, but not anymore for this family!
Bonus Use: Exterminate your enemies with the weight of your very own MEGA towel! Simply run one of these magnificent bath sheets under a faucet for about 45 minutes until it's completely saturated, then heave it at an enemy of your choosing. The sheer weight alone will crush not only their will to live, but very possibly their chest cavity as well!
TLDR: These humongous towels will pat dry even your fluffiest friends with ease. Also, they weigh a ton and I'm bored.

Like a horse blanket
I bought these over a year ago because I wanted durable towels that the edges wouldn't quickly wear out on. I figured that expensive towels would last longer. They are great towels but just too thick and heavy. I've washed them weekly for over a year and gotten an immense amount of lint off of them in the dryer each time, but they're still almost unmanageable due to being so thick and heavy. The wash cloths are smaller than normal wash cloths but very thick and heavy. Because they're so smalI I find it quite difficult to get hold of two corners when scrubbing my back due to my arthritis. This spring I bought two moderately priced towels to use as throws on a chair and they are wonderful. Nice and thick and plush but not overly so like these. Wish I had them for the bathroom and not these. This is definitely an instance of overkill, I think!
One more thing! I purchased these towels 17 months ago and when I use them now they are still rough like sand paper. I'd have thought that after being laundered so many times they would have softened up but they haven't at all. I have six sets of them which was quite an investment. They look like new. I hate them and am tempted to send them to the thrift store and order new ones like those cheaper ones I mentioned above. They are so soft and pleasurable to use!
February 2015...I purchased these towels a little over two years ago because I wanted durable towels that wouldn't ravel on the edges. I cannot stand ragged towels and have thrown many away, over the years, after the edges turned to long threads. Guess what? About a month ago the edges on all of the bath towels started to come apart. My friend said she thinks two years is a good amount of time for towels to be useable but I definitely do not! For what I paid for these towels they should have held up. I wash them on the "heavy" cycle because they are so heavy and I can't think that would be the problem. A load of those heavy things needs to be washed on "heavy!" They are also so rough they are not pleasant to use at all. Usually towels soften up with use and washing but these are terrible...like sandpaper on your back and other delicate places! I still get a whole dryer lint screen full of lint each washing. I bought a cheaper towel from 2DayDeliver to put on the front bucket seat in my car, where my dog sits harnessed in, and it is so soft and nice, I wish I had a set of them. I will soon throw these awful things away and buy a new set as I don't sew and can't put new edges on them myself. It would be half the cost of new towels to take them someplace to get it done. Beware of these awful, heavy and fairly expensive towels. You buy them, you'll be sorry!
2/25/15...I've thought it over for several days and I feel I should also change my rating from "3 stars" to "1 star." These are very poor towels and don't warrant any higher rating than a "1".

a bit hyped - quality not there
I wanted to buy several extremely well-made towels, since I usually buy o.k. towels on sale at J.C. Penny's or similar. These are billed as luxury towels and are pricey. After the first wash, just two towels done according to manufacturer's directions in a Miele German washing machine, the towels came our with some loose stringe hanging from the center of the towel. This shouldn't happen after the first washing, and almost never happens with cheap towels. I can't recommend buying these. Go for a big name brand and buy their best quality towels. The price won't be much different and you won't be disappointed. Apparently, there is a problem with the manufacturing process in producing these towels, since they look great when you unpack them, are richly sofe and thick, but don't hold up even after the first wash.
on 2012-11-04 Disappointing--too thick for adequate drying
I have updated this review and deducted a couple stars, not for quality but for performance.
These 820-gram towels are thick and plush, but they are not especially absorbent. I have previously purchased other Pinzon products from 2DayDeliver, and I've been very pleased with the quality and durability. I ordered the bath sheet to test whether I'd want to buy more. It washed as expected, with minimal shrinking, no fading or dye transfer, no link balls in the washing machine drum or on the agitator, and the dryer lint trap required only one cleaning--at the end of the dry cycle. It took about 40 minutes to dry completely, along with the other stuff in the load. In its first wash, some fuzz transferred to a navy cotton sweater, but that was my fault for washing the two together, and the lint brushed off the sweater easily enough. DO take heed of the other reviews that mention this towel's weight. The 40x70 towel is heavy. HEAVY heavy. Heavier when wet and still heavy when damp, which also means these towels take longer to dry than thinner towels.
Washed and dried once, I was disappointed at how nonabsorbent it was. I ran it through several more loads, hoping to wash away whatever sizing/treatment used on it (many textiles are dipped in formaldehyde to ward off pests, so you should always wash first). Sadly, this towel didn't improve. I used Charlie's Soap
, which rinses completely clean and has no chemical brighteners that can cause the bleached-looking streaks and spots some other reviewers have mentioned. The soap you use does matter, so I probably would not use anything as harsh as Tide; how "dirty" does a towel get, anyway? After drying, the cotton was soft, perhaps too soft. I prefer a slightly rough nap so when I dry vigorously, the towel exfoliates my skin and doesn't just move the water around on my body. I also found that the thickness was a hindrance. It's good for surface drying, but it's difficult to feel the planes of my body through the material, making me feel like I wasn't reaching all the places I wanted to reach to get them dry.
I can't speak for all of the colors, which are rather limited and boring. I like blue, so I ordered Marine, which turned out to be a low-chroma, greyed mid-toned blue, not as light and bright as chambray, more like very-faded denim or the color of Atlantic ocean out past the breakers. In the end, it was just too much towel for me. I gave the 40x70 bath sheet to the Viking, and I will look for alternatives for me.

They're no WaterWorks, but they're nice for the price.
Nice heavy weight, but not as absorbent as I was hoping. The towels I'm replacing (after 11 years) are from Water Works and those were the thickest most absobent cotton I've ever felt (they had a noticeably matte finish - a focus on absorbent over softness - but still super luxurious) -- these Pinzon towels don't quite measure up to that, but they are much more affordable and real nice. Maybe a few more washings will help.

Do not buy!
Large and heavy but not colorfast. I bought one and because I liked it, bought a second. But after a few washings, each looked mottled with big yellow spots all over it. Useless now except as big rags.

Towel of a lifetime!
Thick, dense, absorbent, and VERY soft. That's my experience. I waited all my life to have luxurious hand and bath towels like these. I bought them 13 months ago, and wanted to wait so I could report on how they were holding up. One or two of the bath towels has a one-thread snag here or there, possibly caused by my family catching the towel on something rough. But they're not prone to snags, and we had no lint problem at all -- the towels are just excellent in quality. The color has remained unchanged through many washings. Stitching around the edges remains perfect, good quality, no threads unraveling at all. And they are among the thickest towels I've ever encountered, anywhere: hotels, day spas, beautifully appointed homes.
As other reviewers have pointed out, you need to avoid using fabric softener on towels as it will reduce the softness and absorbency. I love these towels and anticipate them lasting a very long time.
