Useful in More than One Way
I bought this item as a suggestion from my sister who is a painter and spends time standing with her arms out in front of her. I wanted to see if the Body Rite would help me with shoulder and back fatigue as I am an avid sewer and spend decent amounts of time in front of the sewing machine. I am 5'7" and the straps are the perfect length for me. I have had the Body Rite for a week and have been wearing it also when I am at the computer. Here are my first impressions:
I love the fact that the shoulder straps are stretchy, they are made of the same material as old fashioned suspenders and are adjustable. The short strap that clips in between the wider shoulder straps is also stretchy but not adjustable. The shoulder straps are not bulky and can be worn out and about esp. if you will not be sitting down as the back weight might impeded that.
Unfortunately, the straps are flat (not padded or cushy) and therefore can cut into the skin and rub if you are wearing a sleeveless shirt.
The main weight is attached to the body of the strap and the little weight basically "Velcros" itself to the main weight for added support. I think it is useful, I am happy with my purchase and will update my review as I use the Body Rite for longer periods of time.
**A useful note: My son who has some proprioceptive issues loves to wear this weight around the house.

Really helped with shoulder damage from pitching baseball.
My husband has a really bad shoulder from pitching a baseball when he was young, should have had it repaired but they didn't do that years ago (Tommy John surgery). It hangs lower than the other shoulder. His shoulder hurts frequently, and I noticed he wasn't standing up straight because it hurt his shoulder. He won't go to a doctor, stubborn old coot. When his neck started hurting, too, and he started walking like a little old bent over old man, I started looking for a brace to help hold his shoulder in the right position. After lots of research, I bought this one. I figured he'd fight wearing it, but he actually tried it the day it came. It has just enough weight that his shoulder is held back, not hanging forward. It didn't lift it up, nothing short of surgery will fix that part. He noticed relief almost immediately. He wears it working in the yard, and when driving his truck. Driving used to really pinch the nerves in his neck and shoulder and his arm would twitch. Now he doesn't mind driving. I don't know why he won't wear it at work where he still does some heavy lifting, did I mention he's stubborn? We are both very happy with this posture brace and he's standing straight again.

So happy I took a chance on this!
This has been a God-send!! I have to admit that I wasn't expecting this to work to relieve the pain that I would get behind my shoulder blade every time I sat at my desk for more than five minutes. I had tried pillows, stretching, all kinds of things to prevent or relieve the pain. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I tried this! Since I started wearing it when I sit at my desk, I have not ONCE gotten the spasm in my shoulder that I had been getting every single day. The weight makes me keep my shoulders back so I'm not hunched over with my arms extended to the computer - and magic! No spasm! I also wear it just walking around the house - it makes me stand up straight and dramatically improves my posture. I hope it will re-train my muscles so I stand straighter ever when I'm not wearing it. I agree with some other reviewers that the straps are a little irritating it they rub against skin, but I just use a hand towel under the strap if it's bothering me. I think I'll get one of those sheepskin seat belt strap covers and make two pads out of it for these straps. Overall, though, I'm very happy with this item. It has completely prevented what had become a daily excruciating pain in my shoulder/back.

Really a very neat device. I thought this was a gimmicky looking thing, but the reviews were surprisingly pretty good so I bought one after looking forever for a back support. Immediately putting it on(which was easy for someone with a frozen shoulder) I felt relief, I mean it was instant. My shoulders relaxed. But you do have to watch keeping it on too long at first, go gradual. I also surprisingly had the some of the same issues as other reviewers complaining of irritation under the arm, but after about a week and reassessing the photo guide I lowered it on my back some more, and voila, made a pretty significant difference. So keep that in mind if you have that problem. I'm impressed with it, I never would have thought.

Loving the results!
When you have back pain, the first thing you do is find a position that relieves it. In (I'm guessing) ALL cases, you bend, move, lay in a way that harms your posture. I bought this on impulse and was I ever glad that I did. Throughout the day there is always something that causes my old back injury to flare up. I put this on and receive immediate relief! It automatically pulls your shoulders up and straightens your back. It has really made me wonder how much of my back pain was not from the injury but from trying to compensate for it. I love this simple little contraption. Overpriced for what it is (construction and material wise)....but priceless for the result it renders! (I actually purchased a second for a gift once I experienced the pain relief!)

Put unnecessary weight on the back cause more back pain
It's easy to wear. On/off quickly and that's just about the nice thing about this item.
Here is some of the issues that I have using this.
1) weight on the back cause more pain on my back. The reason I wanted to use this is to correct my posture to ease the back pain. My back pain is mostly cause by bad posture. However, this weight (approx 3 lbs) on my back is like carrying melon my back. I know you supposed to be on 30min - 1 hr, but nonetheless, this is an issue for me
2) Unlike other posture correction vest, You can't wear it under your clothes. While it is serving the purpose, posture correction should be ongoing effort. I am not sure just wearing this few times a day will fix the posture. However, this can not be wear under your clothes, thus, you can't really use it unless you are at home working or you don't care about your looks. Even for a guys, I don't think this is pleasing look to wear in

Wonders for my back
Works great. I bought it to help with correct posture while quilting, but it is helping with the curved/ hunch back that started as a teen with a 38EE bust size. At 40 had reduction but my upper back never straightened out. I less than a month I have seen a great improvement in my ability to stand up straight.

I had used muscles I had not used in a long time and I was pretty sore afterwards
This works! Word of caution - ease into it. Wear it only 15 minutes or so a day at first, as the package suggests. I thought I could wear it longer, but after I did I was sorry. I had used muscles I had not used in a long time and I was pretty sore afterwards. So, use as suggested and improve your posture without the soreness I endured.

I've had one like this before and it was great
I've had one like this before and it was great. The Elastic strap on this newer style is TOO firm and cuts into my shoulder. I was greatly disappointed as I liked my first one very well.

Design not effective - save your money and just push your shoulders back!
This product arrived to me a stock clearly from the 1980's. The box looked ancient. Apart from being off put by the the obvious age of the product and packaging - I must identify this product clearly for what it is: it is a fabric bag filled with some sort of sand or small pebble material. It has to elastic shoulder straps sewn onto it. When you wear it according the packaging instructions in NO way, shape, or form does it pull pack your shoulders to create better posture, it is just a heavy sack of sand with weight on the shoulder straps and a heavy "bag" sitting on your spinal column. The device was uncomfortable and actually gave me back pain - it's design and construction will NEVER improve your posture. Save your money and just push your shoulders back!
