1 Stars By mcpaiva on 2016-08-01 Bad, bad iron in July 2016 This is my second Hot Tools Professional 2102 Ceramic Titanium curling iron. I purchased the first through 2DayDeliver in August 2014 and loved it. The iron was wonderful, heated well, the ceramic rod protected my hair and made my hair perfectly smooth. The iron stopped working two weeks ago because of a short in the cord. I ordered a new iron, exact same product number, color, everything. I actually went back to my 2DayDeliver order history and clicked, "purchase this item again" to make sure I got the same curling iron. I received the iron last week and immediately thought, "hmm, that doesn't look quite right." The barrel looked metal and the color was brighter purple; I assumed that two years of use had just made the first one I purchased look different due to residue. I've used this new iron 3 times, and each time, the barrel grabs my hair and shreds the end of my hair. I can hear the hair breaking as I pull the barrel through my hair. I looked at the iron again this morning, examining it closely, and realized, there is no ceramic overlay on the barrel. It's a cheap metal that just rips the hair. Also, it leaves my hair frizzy and horrible. I'm returning this, and will find something else to replace it. BAD, BAD IRON!
1 Stars By Simon on 2016-11-21 HORRIBLE PRODUCT and experience Warning : HORRIBLE PRODUCT and experience!
I have very long straight hair and I've been using few curling irons in my life, but this was the worst curling iron I've ever used. Even on the lowest setting it completely fried my hair and my hair burned off in chunks. That happened in September after I purchased it and I thought maybe it was my fault that I set it up to 330F (normally I use between 300F up to 350F on my other Flat/Curling irons that I own). After that 1st experience, I tried to repair my hair by spending hundreds of dollars on hair masks and Olaplex treatments to attenuate the visible damage that this product did to my hair and I never used it again until today. Today, I thought to give it another try and I set the iron to 280F(the lowest option possible) and it did the same thing to my hair like with the 1st usage. I almost had a mental breakdown, cause this time, it burned the hair from the top of may head. Never in my life I burned my hair with an curling iron that I used, EXCEPT with this specifically product. This curling iron destroyed me hair in 10 seconds, hair that I was growing it up for years to get to this length. Furious and completely devastated, I went and brought my kitchen thermometer to see what is the temperature of the iron in the lowest setting, because I couldn't explain to myself why the heck it burns my hair...what do you think? Thermometer registered 423F on the lowest setting (when it supposed to stay at 280F MAX) (see the video). I am extremely disappointed! On top of everything I cannot even return this item, because the return window closed on October 28th. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! Please check the images and video I posted if you still are wondering to buy it or not.
5 Stars By MNOaks on 2017-05-24 Great Curling Iron My first Hot Tools Lightweight Ceramic Tourmaline Spring Grip Curling Iron 2'' lasted for 18 years. I dropped it on a hard surface and it fell apart-my bad. I figured that after 18 years I had gotten my monies worth, so I purchased the same curIing iron once again. I enjoy my new one as much as the first one. There is consistency in this product. This curling iron heats up quickly. It is easy to hold and maneuver as needed. I like how smoothly my hair glides through the barrel and the clamp. I recommend this product without hesitation.
2 Stars By Mellie on 2017-12-03 Makes unpredictable curls that don't last This curling iron made unpredictable curls, and then they didn't hold. I have thick but fine almost shoulder-length hair. For years, I have been using the Hot Tools gold-plated 1.25" iron. Recently, my hair became EVEN more curl-resistant than it had been in the past. So I thought I'd try a smaller diameter barrel. I stayed with the same brand and style, but changed to this model with the tourmaline finish. So, I'm going to return it and order the Hot Tools 1" with the gold finish, and see if that does the trick.
This curling iron is nice, except for the problem I wrote about above, and it does not burn my hair or smell bad even at the highest setting. Maybe it would work for others.
Update: I received the new Hot Tools 1" iron with gold finish, and yes it worked much better for my hair than this one. Made curls that would go in the direction (under or flipped) I intended, and they last longer.
PS - and yes, I did try the hottest setting, using small sections of hair, and holding the curls for six seconds each, a number I saw an online video as being how long you need to hold for curl-resistant hair.
5 Stars By ashley on 2017-03-31 Updated review *** ***** updated review : curls last much longer when used on second day hair with hairspray. I'm able to get the loose curls I love.
Makes beautiful loose curls but they do not last for more than 3 hours even with hairspray. Will update if I can figure out how to get them to last longer.
5 Stars By Bethany on 2017-12-08 Worth it! Salon Expert Approved! My licensed and very talented stylist suggested this product as she uses it in her personal salon - and I trust her completely. She has never failed my hair needs and has always taken excellent care of it. She understands hair like no one I've ever met. This is a premium, professional tool for the right price! I have been incredibly happy with it ever since purchase and use it 5-6 times out of the week - going on almost half a year now. Be sure to use heat protectant products with any heat styling - and this will leave very little room for error if you use it correctly! The swivel cord design is likely the best thing about it too! Can't imagine going back to a straight cord ever! The surface itself heats up rapidly and I can quickly add some waves to my very straight shoulder long hair in under 15 minutes.
4 Stars By BookLady on 2018-03-03 Huge!! Guess I should have checked out the size of this product before I purchased it. I have used the 1" Hot Tools Professional Ceramic curling iron for years and even replaced it a couple of times due to normal wear and tear. Decided to bump up the size of the curling iron to 1.5" this time instead of 1" in an attempt to tame my naturally curly bangs area. Was shocked at how much larger the 1.5" Hot Tools Professional Ceramic curling is than the 1". Just doesn't seem as though half an inch should make the barrel of this curling iron so huge! Next time, I'll purchase in a store so that I can see the physical size difference. My mistake and in no way the fault of Hot Tools.
1 Stars By Heidi Bretz on 2017-11-20 Caput after 5 months of very little use I bought this curling iron on June 23rd. It lasted exactly 5 months and the heating element broke and it did not heat any more. I only use this curling iron a couple of times a month so it's been used only about 25 times. I would not buy this product again. I called customer service at Helen of Troy because the item was still under warranty. They had me mail the broken one back to them at my own expense. It was delivered per my shipping tracking in two days but they lost the package and took another month to sort that out and get back to me. I still have not received a replacement. Nice warranty.
1 Stars By Todd on 2016-12-29 Dud Received this for Christmas. Plugged it in and let it heat up for about 10 minutes. I turned the heat all the way up since I have such coarse hair. Curled a small piece of hair, and nothing happened. It does not curl. I could wrap my hand around it, and it did not burn. Since my mom bought it as a Christmas present, it is past the return date. Very disappointed. Waste of money.
2 Stars By Katrina Dela Cruz on 2018-05-10 Heartbreakingly disappointing: not for fine, straight hair that won't hold a curl I bought this iron because I needed a 1 1/4" iron, and this was a professional one. The ceramic and tourmaline were said to be good for fine, straight hair that refuses to hold a curl. I was very disappointed to find out that despite a few reviews here that say otherwise, this was not true in my experience.
This iron did not get hot as quickly as my other irons, and I suspect that it does not - despite their slogan - get really hot and stay hot. I used noticeably more time culing my hair with this product than my other irons. AND STILL, THE CURLS START TO FALL OUT BEFORE I AM EVEN DONE WITH MY VERY FEW THIN HAIRS. The fact that I am from abroad and was really anticipating this added to the heartbreak.
I'm leaving two stars because it feels well-made, is easy to use, feels sturdy. I suspect that if your hair is normal and loves to curl, this will work for you.
For reference, the two irons I have which makes my hair hold curl much better are the pink ceramic Remington curling wand, and the Eva-NYC curling wand. This Hot Tools wand is marginally better than generic irons I've purchased from beauty supply stores.
Sadly, if you are like me whose hair is pin-straight and is a terrible curler, you have to keep looking elsewhere for a better iron. I will give Hot Tools another chance with the gold iron, but will be moving on from the brand if that also turns out to be a disappointment.
