Beautiful. Living art. I own several.
So unique and beautiful. Just be sure to read the very simple instructions on where to place it (temperature, lighting), and it will last for years. So special. And many online have talked about their shrimp lasting 10+ years. As you can see, I own a few. The small round, small oval, and the XL (splurge, but I'd wanted that big one for years.)

Great little dudes!
It's been about two years now, and these bad boys are still alive and kicking! And if you're worried about them not getting enough food, don"t... We left them in a very sunny area for a few days and now the water is nearly green with algae, and it's like they can't eat it fast enough! Don't be worried if they're a little white or clear when they first arrive, they turn a bright orange-red within a day or two. Just stick them close to a light, lamp, or by a window and they'll be just fine. We get lots of compliments on this little gift! Our cat even knocked it over off a high counter once, and the glass never broke and the shrimpies are still active and happy!

Pretty sweet. Hope they live long!
**updated- it's been 2 months and they're living and swimming!! Watch the sunlight amount.. There's too much algae in mine, so I've since taken it out of the sun as much.

Purchased this for my husband for x-mas 2015. 4 months later all the shrimp had died. I contact the company about a return and was told you need to ship the original back, in it's original box, and pay an additional $28 for them to ship the new unit. The cost is just barley less then purchasing a new unit. My husband was very excited about this, but that is over now... Very disappointing....

Got this as a gift in 2006, shrimp is still alive today; making it 9 years old.

Eight years and still going.
Mine has lasted since 07/07 - Eight years!
The true secret to maintaining this type of system is that you should put it somewhere that the temp never gets above 75 for more than a short period. Mine stays in the basement on it's display stand. If you're going to be gone for an extended period, put it back in it's shipping box or place a dark cloth over it. The extended periods of dark will extend the life of your sphere.

Great for those who want a pet but not the mess
I've had this EcoSphere for about a month now, and the shrimp are still going strong. This is great if you want a pet that you don't have to care for. I set it next to my computer desk and watch the shrimp swim around while I work.

Really cool and fun for work desk
It is great, I keep in my office desk where it gets enough light and darkness. It is very entertaining to watch the shrimp, my coworkers loved it too. After reading the instructions it is pretty much just making sure the temperature is correct and it gets enough light. I've had it for about a month and the shrimp are all alive and doing great.

it was fantastic until it started to turn brown
I bought this a little more than a year and a half ago for my daughter for her birthday in April. At first, it was fantastic until it started to turn brown. It is disgusting and I have been trying to get her to throw out for well over 3 months now. See pics. I don't know how long this ecosphere should last but it clearly is a temporary gift. Yes, she followed the directions, she is in college. Very disappointed!
