Piece of Cake
By the second usage, it is quite easy to install. Loading the bikes is a piece of cake. The rack easily fits inside the hatch of my XB while we are out riding.

Does the job
I give this bike rack 5 stars because it works well, and I have not noticed any flaws yet, and I do not expect to. It is moderately easy to figure out, and after you know how to set it up, putting bikes on it is easy.

This rack assembled fairly easily and I'm not exactly adept at that sort of thing typically.
Once it's attached to you car it stays put and is very sturdy. I carried only one bike on it 99% of the time and it was never unbalanced. There is some slight bouncing and movement while going over bumps but the bike stays secure.
I didn't trust the rubber feet to not mar my car's paint so I simply placed a folded micro-fiber towel in between the foot and my car when I was cinching down the rack. I've been using the rack with this method for a year and a half and the paint is unmarred.
This is a phenomenal rack. Don't let the other reviews scare you away. This is a quality produc

I want my "Bones 3" back!
My Bones 3 (also by Saris - a great, sturdy, and collapsible design) doesn't fit my new car because of its roof spoiler (2013 FIAT 500), so I traded it in for the Gran Fondo.
I can't believe this piece of junk costs more than twice the price of the Bones 3 and holds fewer bikes. It was an absolute nightmare to assemble. In fact, I had to dismantle and reassemble portions of the rack that came assembled incorrectly from Saris! The instructions are terrible - I think they might be a practical joke from Saris. After 90 minutes and a whole lot of cursing, I was done and test fitted it.
This thing is not sturdy, doesn't inspire confidence, seems horribly unbalanced when loaded with a single bike, hard to adjust, doesn't collapse for storage, holds bikes very high - putting them at risk in parking garages and the drive thru, isn't securable, and still comes very close to relying on that stupid roof spoiler to bear weight.
I am sorely disappointed in Saris for bringing this engineering disaster to market so hastily. I may return my Gran Fondo and pay to have a trailer hitch installed on my car.
