Safe, inexpensive, and effective cleaner for home brewers and pros alike
My understanding is that PBW was designed to be a safe, all-purpose cleaner for one of the big brewing companies. In my experience, it's been very effective when combined with hot water from the tap. I've seen it almost instantly dissolve hops, grain, extract, and yeast residue from the inside of fermenters. I've used it to clean the machining oils off my stainless steel fermenter before i used it. Recently, when I acquired a RIMS brewing system called "The Grainfather" through its US Kickstarter campaign, they recommend cleaning with PBW before the first use and after every use. Since I hope to be brewing a lot with The Grainfather, I decided it was time to step up to a more cost-effective package of PBW. The smaller one-pound container was used up pretty quickly.
Depending on your cleaning needs and the volume of PBW you require, you will probably use 1-2 ounces of this stuff at a time. That means this one container should get you through 64 or more cleanings. That's a lot of brewing. At the price offered when this review was posted, that's certainly less than a dollar per cleaning. Gotta like that.

This WILL Amaze You
This is a great, environmentally safe cleaner that does the miraculous...
My husband found out about this from a friend who had some microbrewing experience. He then came home and dissolved some of this in our kitchen sink filled with water. We began soaking all of our dishes, pots and pans. They came out looking incredible! It removed tough, ugly stains from my stainless steel pots that no amount of scrubbing has ever been able to take off.
We also use this in the toilets to easily remove hard water mineral deposits. We don't even have to scrub it--just let it sit for a day without flushing. The sight of our immaculate toilets impressed our last landlord, who promptly returned our entire deposit (an unusual occurrence in that complex).
It thoroughly cleans the organic residue off of a number of surfaces, from glasses to grills...However, one caution needs to be noted when cleaning your pans---Keep it away from Teflon!

Gets soap residue out of plastic dishware
I have a lot of plastic dishes/cups that kids use and was often dealing with residual soap smells/tastes no matter how I washed them. I soaked them in baking soda, vinegar, used perfume/dye free soaps.... all to no avail. The problem has been totally solved by adding a tbsp of PBW powder to each of the soap cups in the dishwasher along with regular detergent. The inside of my dishwasher has never been cleaner and my clear glass tumblers also have significantly improved their looks - very little haze and no spots. I plan on soaking the hazier glasses (years worth of dishwashing residue) in a stronger concentration to see if I can get it all off. It's pricey so if it wasn't for the kids' dishes tasting like soap I may have continued (probably in vain) to try another solution but honestly, this stuff rocks. I found it as a recommendation on a mom's blog about getting soapy taste out of plastics. She was right and I'm grateful for the rec.

This is the stuff
I have only used this product in my wine and beer making operations, and it does the job as advertised. Using hot water and following the dilution instructions, it will clean just about anything. It talks about cleaning grease and using it in the dishwasher, but I have not tried any of those things. As far as getting residue out of carboys, kegs, bottles, and brew pots it works fantastic.

Buy in bulk!
80% of successful home brewing is cleaning. This stuff is a must. If you're new to home brewing and just trying things out, you can go with a smaller size than this. But if you're the sort of enthusiast who starts a new batch as soon as the old one is done, do your wallet a favor and buy in bulk like this.

Best brewing cleaner around!
Best brewing cleaner around. Gets everything off and clean. Wish it used a measurement in tbsp instead of grams to be more clear in directions!

This is my go to when 1-setp or easy-clean has met its match. Use it to clean my more grimier caked on beer equipment and around the kitchen. PBW will soak the labels off bottles and remove burnt and scorched on messes from the bottom of pots and pans with minimal effort after soaking. Read the label mix with hot water soak then rinse well and sanitize. Just don't use on aluminum or Teflon PTFE. If you are using better bottle PET carboys it will degrade the plastic if left to soak for a prolonged period. A very brief soak and rinse is OK but use extreme caution.
In a pinch I have used it as a laundry aid a bit pricy but it worked very well.

Everyone knows PBW is the best stuff for cleaning your homebrew equipment. It works wonders.
I have 6-8 people who come to my place to brew every week. It was getting really expensive buying 1-pounders all the time. This will last us a while and worked out to almost half price!

A must have for homebrewers.
A must have for homebrewers. PBW easily cleans everything you brew with - bottles, tubes, buckets, carboys, etc. It is also great at cleaning pots and pans, particularly with burnt-on bits of food that won't seem to come off. It's worth every penny.
