Incapacitated My Brother
Working in some rougher neighborhoods, I leave this is my car's center console, just in case. I'm a big, strong guy - no one messes with me - but I'd rather not get in a fistfight with a dog or druggie, and I personally don't want to carry a handgun, which are illegal in Chicago in any case. I've had other sprays. This is the easiest to aim and has the best "cone" of spray with decent, but not earth shattering distance. It's pretty big, but not huge, which is both good and bad - easier to access and use, harder to conceal and less likely to find room in a purse or jacket pocket. I test fired it and felt a lot safer than with other sprays. In a nasty situation, you don't want to need to aim or think, just point in a general direction and squeeze.
I also know that it burns like crazy. How did I find out, you ask?
The (accidental) test:
I was pumping gas, leaning on the jeep, and my brother, a tall young man of 23, found this pepper gun in my console. He didn't see "MACE" on the side and for unknown reasons thought it was a novelty lighter and decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, it was pointing right at his face. So the first thing I know, my brother jumps out of the car yelling and rolling on the ground. I ran over and caught a small wiff, and it was like someone had squeezed a habanero pepper in my face. I backed off, my face streaming with tears. Eventually, I washed my brother's face with several bottles of water until he could function. My brother says couldn't see for about 3 minutes, was basically incpacitated for 10, tearing up with a runny nose for 30 minutes, and seriously unhappy for the 2 hours until he could take a long shower. And being in my car, even after seriously scrubbing the inside, was a bad experience for a couple of weeks. Thanks bro.
What we learned:
1) This stuff seriously hurts. Like, really bad, torture chamber hurts. Which is good.
2) Keep it in a safe place, away from kids or adults who make poor choices
3) It takes a long time to clean off a surface
4) Just toss the canister after use - it will leak slowly after it's been used once and you're face will always be a little on fire after you touch objects it's been around

Nice stream, good range, easy to handle, bulky in pocket.
Nice product. It is a little bulky for the pocket, but they do make a holster for it. I used the practice cartridge and it has an excellent range (15-20ft) that comes out in a stream, as opposed to a mist. I am going to figure out a way to make it clip to the inside of my pocket.
I bought this after my neighbor's pit bull came under the fence and attacked my mother and my 14 year old lab. I broke it up initially with a can of pepper spray that I had been carrying around for several years, and the range on that can was only about 7 feet in a mist. I experienced some blow back and got some on myself, which was as you might imagine somewhat unpleasant. It barely made it to the dog, but was just enough to stop the attack. and get the dog out of my yard.
Just a word of precaution. Be careful where and how you use this. It may be totally legal where you reside, but it does resemble a real firearm from about any distance. I wouldn't go walking around with it in my hand or jogging like you would with a normal can of pepper spray, you would look like a crazy person walking around with a pistol, and I imagine you could get taken in on some trumped up charge for brandishing or something.

Excellent ease of use.
This item will not produce more than 4 shots (less than 2 seconds per shot).
Other than that it is an excellent product.

Buy it ladies!
I am a female, petite, senior citizen who enjoys hikes. Unfortunately, my husband is unable to hike with me. There have been some attacks in our area on women who were biking or running alone. I am not about to let pervs stop me from getting my daily exercise, but it did worry me that I didn't have anything to protect myself with. I considered getting a conceal carry permit and carrying a small gun. Thing is, I don't really want to cause permanent injury to someone......I just want them to go away! Enter the Mace Pepper Gun. It gives me a sense of security, knowing I at least have something to use in an emergency. I practiced with the water cartridge, and it shoots a good stream a good distance. The pistol grip makes it easy to aim and shoot. I appreciate the safety switch location and ease of activating.

... come in a small bottle but this is the best I have purchased
I have bought the other kinds of mace that come in a small bottle but this is the best I have purchased. I'm sure all of them work but I feel safer with this because it shoots stronger and it sprays a good amount of mace. When I first got it I tested it by shooting at a wall in my home. It left some residue so I said let me go over and clean it up....and that was a big mistake because when I got about 3 feet from the wall the pepper spray hit me and I can't tell you how horrible it made me feel. I never been exposed to pepper spray so I guess I underestimated this stuff. My eyes closed and I was coughing and burning inside. I didn't even get hit directly and it effected me greatly. I can just imagine what its like if it hit me directly. I don't see how a person can get hit with this and not get stopped in their tracks. It took me about 5 minutes or so to get back to normal. This stuff is nothing to play with trust me! If someone gets hit with this mace gun I really feel sorry for that person they will be in another world for about 10 minutes...LOL

Great personal defense item, plus it comes in pink.
I got this as a present for my girlfriend since she like to go on early morning hikes/walks. We have not tested out the mace yet, but with the water test cartridge that comes with it easily hits your target 20 feet away. She loves the fact that it's pink and fits in her purse/waist pack. It is plastic but feels very sturdy. The light that is built in is bright, it's not going to light up huge areas but it will definitely make it hard to see if pointed at someones face.

Arrived as described. It contains one practice, water cartridge INSIDE the gun and one, pepper cartridge INSIDE the package. The LED pulsating light already has a working battery loaded in the handle of the gun. Any replacement batteries will require a 1.5 alkaline button cell type battery. The gun has a safety setting so you can't pull the trigger when the safety is set to "orange." When the safety is off, you can more easily pull the trigger but you have to squeeze it. The stream is long but thin, so you better have good aim or allow the perp to get closer than what's comfortable. I went ahead and ordered an extra set of pepper cartridges to keep with my "guns." That way, I won't run out in the event I have time to re-load for a "kill" shot.

Practice Cartridges Defective
Bought total of three Mace Pepper Spray Guns so far. Attracted to the product form and proposition.
One water practice cartridge was included with each gun. One of the practice cartridges worked OK. Two of the three practice cartridges would not spray, as if they had no propellant.
Shaking the three water cartridges in comparison gives the feeling the two non-performing cartridges are low/empty vs the cartridge that sprayed.
We haven't yet tested the pepper spray cartridges, but our confidence in the product was diminished due to the 2/3 failure to function of the water cartridges.
No-Win: If we test the pepper cartridges then we deplete their capacity, which seems clear from the single water cartridge that worked - for only a few seconds, as in 2 bursts. This leaves us with two choices: deplete to confirm (rendering a moot result), or don't test and wonder if the thing will work when it's REALLY NEEDED.
Suggest Mace get serious about the issue and address the cause, as the product has potential but MUST perform reliably, including the practice cartridges - and MUST inspire confidence in those who consider using it.

Holy! DOES THIS THING SHOOT! I thought they were exaggerating about the power and distance this thing has. When you pull that trigger, there is no mistaking this thing is firing. The spray is in such a straight strong beam that it feels like I am using an old school 90s Supersoaker. I would totally love to have a million of these water cartridges just to run around spraying my friends in the summer time.
I have no doubt this product will work wonders. I am carrying this when I carry my firearm to offer a non-lethal method for diffusing situations.

Does not work... and maybe arrived used?
It doesn't work at all, and it arrived looking like the package had been opened and poorly resealed. I think it was used and returned, then sold to me. It would not shoot either the water cartridge or the mace cartridge.
