4 Stars By Dmitriy on 2014-08-23 Good, but can be better with slight tweaks from the manufacturer. I've this BEME erod for a few days and wanted to share my thoughts. Take a look at the video where I highlight some of the issues with the unit. Video quality isn't the best as it's with a cell phone, but I think its okay overall.
First and foremost, you cannot beat the value of this unit for its price. You can have the unit installed and working in about 30 minutes about another 30 minutes to mount the curtain / clean up the wiring. I installed the rod in my bedroom so they will be getting daily use. This will be a good test for its longevity.
Pros: - Adjustable width gives great flexibility - Easy of install - Everything except for remote batteries are included The descriptions seems to hint they are included, but I did not find them. - Low cost - Customer service at the company responded to an email same day
Cons: - Mounting brackets place curtain 4 inches off of the wall at its closest. I'm pretty sensitive to light, so I had to use a dremel to cut down 6 of the parts in order to get a "tighter" installs to the wall. This took an extra hour as it was several test and fit rounds in order to get it as close as I did. - Unit motor is loud. On of my initial thoughts was to use the light as a good way to wake up in the morning. Unfortunately, the motor noise will wake you up before the light does. This is much, much louder than my projector screen (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YTRFEG). - Motor lacks in power / mechanism is not smooth. You can hear the unit "grinding" / having difficulty at some point in the motors cycle. My curtain is relatively light (maybe 7 pounds), you can hear it struggling. - Large light gap created between the erod and curtain when using the curtain clips to hang the curtain. I'm going to try to mount my curtain on these pin on hooks and see if the does the trick: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HJBG8O - No option for hardwire control. This may be necessary for a small percentage of the market, but it would be a very inexpensive to have dry contacts for close, open, and stop - Quality control on the curtain clips seems to be poor as two on my rod had bent pins. I had to get needle nose pliers and coerce them into working.
BEME should: - Provide different brackets for flush wall mounting - Source a quieter and stronger motor - Consider having a design change or alternate model where the moving mechanism is on the face of the rod rather than the bottom (turn it 90 degrees). The rod itself would block the light from escaping upward and having the curtains mounted on the front would cover up the rod when they are closed. - Add 4 dry contacts for control through other means than IR. This could be additional revenue as it can be a kit that could connect to a header on the motor.
5 Stars By Walter on 2016-09-05 The install was very easy. Install the motor (I had a bit of ... I am thrilled with this purchase. I was able to integrate the system into Alexa and can can control the drapes via voice command. I little background ... I received today and installed. The install was very easy. Install the motor (I had a bit of difficulty with snapping it into place, but probably was me and I finally got it). Measure and mark where you want the brackets to go. Screw 3 brackets to the studs, attach the rod, adjust the distance of the rod from the wall. I am having some problems understanding how to adjust the center close - it pushes the right drape further right than it should when it closes. I don't understand completely the instructions on adjusting the screws, but it is no big deal. I then integrated the IR controls into my global cache wifi2ir. Do not use the codes on the beme site. Here are the correct codes:
I control my global cache via homeseer. I created a virtual on off and dim device in homeseer and told alexa to discover devices. She found the new device and I can open the drapes by saying Alexa turn on the drapes, and close them by saying Alexa turn off the drapes. Very cool, will now automate open and closing with sunrise and sunset. I am also going to purchase one for my large picture window, Very inexpensive solution. I already had the technology to integrate it into Alexa, just needed an IR controlled rod and this one fit the build.
5 Stars By KEN RUDA II on 2013-11-06 Wow! Why didn't I order these eariler??? Wow! Why didn't I order this earlier? Today I received two of the eRod Center Opening Motorized Drapery Rods and I absolutely love them. They are very well made! I first installed them on a couple windows in my living room that were difficult reach in order to open and close the drapes. NOT ANY MORE.... These remote controlled motorized drapery rods were very simple to install. I was hesitate of ordering three of these since all of the pictures show the motor on the right hand side and I needed two of the three mounted on the left since that is where I have an outlet. Well I was happy to see that these are designed very well and can be easily mounted with the motor on either side.
The directions are straightforward and larger print than most other directions so they were easy to read and simple to follow. However, at first I thought I was missing a "L" bracket since the instructions indicated that I should have received 3 of them. I could only find two, but quickly discovered that the "missing third" bracket was already attached to the center bracket assembly.
They are fun to operate and I was able to use the same remote to open all three of the drapes in my room. The IR Remote has a good range and with a little "fun" practice and creative aiming I was able to open or close all three drapes on one wall at once or independently.
They worked so well and were so easy to install that I just ordered some more for the rest of my windows!
UPDATE: I've been using the eRod's now for a couple years without issues. I have since automated the operation of the eRods with the Harmony Hub (IR controller) and set up a macro to automatically close the curtains when I power up my TV. I have also setup activities on the Harmony Hub called, "Open Curtains" and another named "Close Curtains" which I can activate on my phone with the My Harmony App.
However the coolest thing is to control the curtain rods by voice by adding an additional piece of hardware called IVEE Sleek. Using the "IVEE Sleek" - which integrates with and can control the Harmony Hub. I can simply say, "Hello IVEE Open Curtains" anywhere in my Living or Dining rooms and it will cause the Harmony Hub to start Activity "Open Curtains" which blasts the IR code to the eRod's to open all three curtains in the Living and Dining rooms. Of course I can close the curtains via voice command by simply saying, "Hello IVEE Close Curtains" - I no longer need to even use the eRod IR remotes anymore. I love the convenience of it and it always amazes my friends.
4 Stars By the product truther on 2017-05-10 I like the BEME motorized rods, but.... Fit and finish I would rate as good. Installation difficulty is related to just how high you are mounting the rod. For me, installing the rod 16 feet in the air, involved much up and down on the ladder ( I installed by myself).
In my case, I ordered 2 rods, both center opening. One rod arrived as a side opening and I called their customer service. I would rate my customer service experience as excellent--- especially in this day and age. Returned the side drawing rod and ordered again the center opening rod. No problem as the correct opening rod arrived in short order. That said, this is NOT a commercial quality motorized rod, but for dollars spent, I think they are of good value. The motor works well, has good torque and , to me, is not that noisy, contrary to what other reviewers have said. I think the noise issue is way overblown. The speed of the draw is ok, not laborious but deliberate.
I do have one complaint and that is--- in both rods there would be one side (the one closest to the motor) that would have a catching point that would hold the carrier from going further. I had to manually pry the carrier mechanism to get it to work. Other than that, all good. Would buy again.
2 Stars By LiberalsAreInsane on 2017-03-09 Would be ok if it worked I installed everything ok and I clipped on my curtains. I then used the remote to open curtains and everything worked ok but then I attempted to close the curtains and a few inches down the carrier closest to the motor jammed and the motor stopped. If I pushed the carrier up and then pressed remote to close it would clear the jam but then when the first clip hit that same point it jammed again. I called support and they have no idea, they told me someone had the same issue and fixed it with duct tape (I'm pretty sure after looking at it my problem can't be solved with duct tape). So I'm sending the unit back but since I threw out the boxes it came in I'm going to have to pay to have it boxes and shipped back. I hope the next unit isn't bad but one thing is for sure I'm keeping the box just in case.
Update 3/13/2017: I got the slide to work using duct tape so I'm keeping that unit. The replacement unit I received is NOT a center opening drape, it only opens/closes on one side (Even though the box is incorrectly marked center opening). I removed one more star for wrong item being shipped to me.
3 Stars By C W Morse on 2014-11-30 Mechanically, this motorized drapery rod is well designed. ... Mechanically, this motorized drapery rod is well designed. But two of its three mounting brackets are at fixed positions, which will rarely line up with wall studs. Only the middle bracket is moveable. There also aren't enough drapery hooks for American curtains. So plan on spending an additional $15 for an extra set. Also the hook receptacles are not well positioned. Maybe I've just been spoiled with traditional Kirsch rods all these years. And there's no way to operate this rod except with the included IR remote. Also buy higher quality mounting screws. The cheapy ones they supply twist and bend, making accurate mounting difficult.
5 Stars By 2DayDeliver Customer on 2013-07-19 Love it- Easy, Practical, Fun We installed it ourselves in a high Palladian window in a bedroom with blackout drapes. Easy installation despite awkward place. Company is GREAT. When I emailed with a problem they got right back to me and took care of it immediately. Not only has it turned out to be highly practical for our very tall window there's a fun factor to pressing a button and having the drapes open and close while in bed. The motor does make a noise but it is not something that bothers us at all. For the price I think this is an exceptional product and the seller turned out to be exceptional also.
3 Stars By Jeanette on 2018-07-25 A real pain to install but I love it anyway I originally purchased this from Home Depot. When I received the box after waiting for 2 weeks on the ship to store, the box was a mess and I knew that this would be someone's return, but I took it figuring that they must have checked it out. I should have known I was in for issues when I took the motor out of the box and it was all scratched. After struggling with putting up the brackets I put it all together and gave it a try. The motor worked but regardless of what I tried, the two sides just wouldn't meet in the middle.... well, they met, but then one side pushed the other all the way back to start. I called BEME and they were very nice and tried everything they could to help set the rod, but they couldn't figure out why it was doing what it was doing. It had to be in the rod itself. The best they could offer was for me to return the product and request another.
I didn't want to wait 2 weeks for Home Depot again, so I ordered one from 2DayDeliver and while it was more expensive than HD, it would ship in 2 days. When the new one arrived I took the old rod down, reinstalled the new one and now this one had a bad motor. No response at all from it. What I ended up doing was using the old motor with the scratches on the new rod and I was able to get it to work almost perfectly. I packed up the remaining parts and returned it to Home Depot making sure I clearly marked the box "RETURNED ITEM - DAMAGED" so they wouldn't sell it to so other unsuspecting consumer.
Now that this is up and working, I really like it. I no longer have to lean over the couch to close or open the drapes. With all the trouble I had getting the correct parts, I still would recommend the product to others.
1 Stars By DJ on 2017-03-12 But the center sagged to much and ultimately frustration set in and the rod ended up in the garbage with the box This rod will not fit a 116 window even though it states it will. The rod came as a side open not a center open. The remote does not come with batteries as stated. Overall my husband who is a handyman and does custom installs all the time, had to try and make it work as he had already put locking part in place and had torn up and threw out the box already. So he tried to use the center bracket on the end so we could at least use without the wood molding showing on the one side until we got the right one. But the center sagged to much and ultimately frustration set in and the rod ended up in the garbage with the box. My window is now sporting a sheet and I am not happy at all. Waist of money at this point. If it would have fit right as it says it does, and been center opening like I paid for, perhaps it would be a good rod. As it is, it is now in the garbage and I am out the money. Not Happy at all! I only gave one star because you cannot leave it blank. SMH... I saved so long for these....tears.
4 Stars By 2DayDeliver Customer on 2018-03-03 Great product but not perfect. After a little over a year I'm still happy with this product. But, I don't like all of the noise it makes when operating, Also, instead of turning off when the drapes are fully open I always have to manually turn off the motor with the remote. The remote works well if the remote receiver is mounted high and is aimed toward where you will operate the remote. The remote batteries are not included as advertised. This product has made it possible to let the light in from a window I couldn't easily access before. I highly recommend it but be aware of what you are getting.
