Lots of Fun, Plus a Great Learning Tool!
I made this purchase for my adult daughter. She suffered a brain trauma that left her without some very basic skills. I purchased a Leap Pad to give her some fun ways of learning. This has been a very useful and fun tool for her. I would think a child would enjoy this very much!

Five year old LOVES it! Promotes good problem-solving skills!
This is one of my five year old son's favorite games! He plays it on the Leapster GS. It holds his attention well, and the puzzles promote good problem solving skills. There are a few different games, all of which require some deductive reasoning and a bit of strategy. The box indicates that this game would be good for ages 4-7. While I know that all kids are different, I think that five or maybe six would be the oldest age interested in this game. We love it for now, but I could see him outgrowing this in a few months.
Leapster graphics in general are not great, but in relative terms, this game has some of the better LeapFrog graphics that I have seen. The music and sound effects are good ... just like in the movie.
If you have 4-5 year-old Monsters fan with a Leapster GS, this is a great game!

a big hit
I purchase for my 4 year old who really likes this game from the start. She has a lot of leappad games and so she is a bit experienced in playing. She hasn't had to ask me for help which she has in other games, like Brave, Ben 10, etc. She is a quick learner for 4 and she jumped right in. I ask her how to play the games and she can explain the rules. She really enjoys the matching game and I finally updated her mircomods because she couldn't wait for new monster suits.
I plugged the game into the learning path and she's doing very well. She has room to learn but the game also isn't too easy. I love this feature of the leappad game systems. She has gotten 97% of the questions right and is almost to the next difficulty which is the best part of getting these games.
The big drawback is that even with the volume low there are kids screaming/ shrieking and it's loud and really annoying voice. I can be making dinner and that screaming can be heard throughout the house when the rest of the game is quiet. I always have to remind my daughter to play this game in a low volume.
My 2 year old tried out the game but he loses interests very quickly especially when he does it all wrong but it too stubborn to learn how controls work. If you are looking for a game for a young child (2-3) there are really great download apps that my son likes and then you don't have to worry about the cartridge missing. He only played the game for 7 minutes before his little mind wondered off to something else.
But my daughter really likes this game she tells everyone it's her favorite (although it is the newest she has) game and she played it before watching the new movie and has gotten good use out of it.

Not much of a challenge
This game was kind of easy to finish. My 3 year old beat the game and that was it. not much to it. You have to make the monsters sneak around a room and not get caught. Or the monsters need to scare sleeping kids. Pretty much, that's it.

This is my daughters favorite leap game (she is 5) It is more like a video game (less of a learning game) probably why she loves it so much!

Great thinking skills taught with this game
One of the kids favorites. I do not know if it is just the characters or the games, but it was a hit.

Perfect for kids!
I'm really happy with how LeapPad approaches edutainment. My kids are having a blast with this game and little do they know they are learning at the same time ;-)

Like it, but a little more limited on game selection than most of the other games we own. Only a few choices and the levels don't vary much. Overall, the kids still enjoy playing it but just tire of it faster than other games.
