Telescopic lenses are useful regardless of skill level; beautiful bokeh
For all the reviews stating that "if you can't take a good picture with an 18-55 mm then it won't help to upgrade", I have to respond with: that is patently false. One of the only things that DSLRs are good for, in comparison to the 16MP smart phones of today, is the zoom feature and there are certain shots that you will never be able to get without a zoom.
The way I look at it, these types of far seeing lenses are better than a pair of binoculars in most cases and you can also capture an excellent image of what you see at the same time! That is truly priceless, and nothing can replace the ability to take an image that would otherwise require you to be floating mid-air to get the same level of detail; maybe when jetpacks become available or quadcopter photography, but otherwise, it is impossible to get telescopic detail with a wide-angle lens, especially in places that you are not able to move closer in order to view.
Additionally, the flattening effect of a telescopic photo is quite beautiful and this particular lens does produce a fantastic bokeh, as others have stated.
I have attached three pictures which allow you to see the benefits of a telescopic lens.
The first shows the bokeh in the lower left corner; the photo was taken at a cliff's edge. The other two demonstrate the detail of a full zoom which would otherwise have never been captured.

55-300mm Camera Lens
When I first tried it out, I immediately went out to the flower garden and was so pleased with the clarity of the picture.
It takes practice getting used to where you need to be for this lens to focus properly. Being too close to your subject does not work. I find that when at a good distance, and the lens is not focusing on the subject I want (no, it can’t read your mind), I switch it to manual and work with that. It’s a refurbished lens, so it wasn’t extremely expensive. Sometimes it seems to have a trouble focusing but that just might be operator error and lack of knowledge how close or far I need to be from the subject. (M. Struse)

Looks and works like new. The auto-focus is generally very quick and it works very will with both my Nikon D3100 and D7200.
The particular one I got had a speck of dust on the inside of the lens, but so far it does not impact the photo quality.

A little slow but decent for the price.

The lens came with a certificate of...being refurbished or whatever you would call it. And the lens is great. It works great. It's in new condition. I'm very pleased with it!

The product looks and functions like brand new
Bought this refurbished, for my Nikon D5300. The product looks and functions like brand new.
VR feature is very nice, I feel fully comfortable shooting pictures at full zoom without a tripod.

Nikon 55-300 lens
I purchased this lens as a refurbished product, but it was in new condition when received. The lens works great, adds a new dimension to my travel photography. This was recommended by a friend who is a semi-pro photographer and I am well pleased with the results.
