Yes, It does do everything advertised but not as spectacularly as advertised.
Yes, It does do everything advertised but not as spectacularly as advertised.
Yes, It does increase suction power but it doesn't increase flow to the filter or the return lines, as everyone would expect under Bernoulli's principle.
Yes, It does pull floating debris from larger distances, and reduces the need of skimming manually with a net.
Yes, I was able to reduce pump running time from about 2.5 hours to 2 hours (yes, on very sunny dry places, just keeping the pool to the intense sun light kills algae and mold.
Yes, I had problems with the skimmer basket getting dislodged when people swam and yes, Skim doctor adds weight to it and lessens the problem.
Yes, It's easier to pull out the basket because you don't have to submerge your hands to take it out, however emptying it is more difficult and rinsing with a hose is almost mandatory.
Yes, It is very easy to install, don't overtighten the screw or you will bend the basket's base or even brake it.
Why did I gave it 4 stars. Well, I think it's expensive for what it really is, a plastic cylinder (no matter how smart the product is). The other reason is advertising is overoptimistic. Yes, It does do everything advertised but not as spectacularly as advertised.

Very good, not perfect.
I am of two minds on this unit. On the plus side the vortex set up in the skimmer is very effective. On the down side, when the time comes to clean out the skimmer is more difficult. The lip of the unit blocks material from coming out. This is of particular issue with moderately small particles. I have a beautiful Japanese Maple overhanging the pool. When the spring flush brings out the small blossoms. Boy, does it ever. Literally pounds of them. These block up just about any skimmer. The problem is removal. If the tree were not so incredibly beautiful I would have pulled it years ago. I do have a suggestion for the manufacturer...put phillips or allen key heads on the plastic nuts on the bottom of the brass threaded rod. It would make assembly and disassembly much more convenient. On the whole, the advantages far outweigh the problems.

One of few products that works as advertised.
I don't really spend time to write reviews but I've had this installed for about 9 months. I got to say it's pretty amazing.
I install a filter sock around the threads of top part that screws into the plate to keep my main pool filters clean. It doesn't twist all the way on like it probably should but it holds just fine for 3 to 4 days before the filter sock gets full from leaves, dust, and bugs.
Sidebar: when I first started using this I had some pretty awesome filter socks that did not rip or tear for about two to three weeks it seemed. But I ran out of those and got something else, the new socks rip about every two times I clean this thing out. So I'm on the hunt right now for some awesome filter socks again since I'm running out of the new ones. Not that it really matters because they're so cheap anyway.
Anyway, back to this product. I glanced over a couple all the reviews before writing this and some people say it does not work for them. I noticed it seems less effective at cleaning the very top surface of the water when my pool level is higher than normal for some reason. The trick is too close the gate to just barely restrict the water flow coming in. In other words you want to create a slight vortex, similar to when you flush your toilet. If you can see this water effect in the unit then you are capturing the most amount of surface water you can. When my pool level is normal, I keep the gate open all the way and I still have that swirling effect. Your results May Vary.
Another sidebar: I purchase some different style nozzles that help push the water sideways from some of my outlets around the pool. Some of them are pointed just slightly toward the surface to keep the top surface water moving.
The concept to imagine is a swirling effect that moves the water clockwise around the pool while the filter is running.
My pool pump is off throughout the day, so when it comes on in the evening, the whole pool surface is clean from dust and leaves in about 30 to 45 minutes... That never happened before I got this skimmer adapter. So I would say this product works like a champ.

Skimmer on Steroids
I have an A&A quick skim skimmer installed in my 20000 gal in-ground pool. I have a Jandy 2.0 VSP attached as well. When running on low rpm's (lower than 2300) the quick skim never skimmed well. I just installed this device and.....WOW! Even at low power (2100 rpm) this thing creates a vortex in the skimmer increasing the skimming action into the skimmer. You can power down the RPM's on your pump, let it run longer and will not see a decrease in skimming action due to the lower RPM's! Greatest addition ever!

Definitly will work to keep your water free from anything floating on the surface
I'll give this 5 stars for function but overall 4 stars because of design. It absolutely does work better than a regular skimmer basket. Regular skimmers seem to only work when your pool water is fairly low allowing increased flow into the basket area. This works like that all the time even when your pool water is high. I just installed mine two days ago with my water level being about one inch below my overflow outlet. Before installation I had ant's, gnat, pollen and other crap floating on the surface. Within an hour of installation of the SkimDoctor it was all gone. When I woke up this morning I had the same type of crap on the surface after the pump was off all night. An hour or less after the pump went on it was all gone. It works as advertised and I think it will do an even faster job if the water is a little lower. I have the adjustable "vent" set on about halfway. This will be a bit of a pain to empty out when full and a hose should help because of the lip on the basket. Don't even think that you will unscrew the two screws every time you clean it. Those long screws have super tiny threads and take about 300 turns to tighten or remove the assembly. Assembly of the basket will take you much, much longer unless you use a cordless drill with a small driver to turn the blue plastic knobs. I'm very pleased with this assuming this contraption doesn't fall apart and the screws don't rust too early on in the game. I will really appreciate this when our Florida gnat season peaks in the summer. My old skimmer was useless unless my pool water was real low.

Not terrible but really not as good as advertised.
Not terrible but not really as good as advertised. My main reasons for purchasing were to increase the collection of debris on top of water and to have something I didn't have to put my hand into the basket to pull out. This does do both albeit not as good as I had hoped.
1. Collecting top debris - It does in fact do this....while the pump is running. Once the pump stops everything tends to float to the top of the basket and gets re-released into the pool It would be great of the crazy smart people who developed this could add some form of a 1-way flap trap where the SkimDoctor meets the basket, to avoid this (but then people would bitch that you cant empty the basket easy enough.
2. Using it as a high handle to remove the basket for cleaning - Works as advertised but it is a hell of an expensive high handle.
3. The last issue is the sizing. It comes with the silver plate and a wider blue ring for larger skimmer baskets.....my problem is I couldn't just use the silver trim rings as they were too small and the blue ring made it to wide for the opening int he ground. I was bale to rectify this by modifying the blue plastic to reduce its circumference so as to fit in the opening but most people I would imagine wouldn't do this.
The Bernoulli effect is there but I am not sure it does anything besides swirl the water any more than it did before. I have a pretty large pump so it swirled well before. I guess it does something because as long as it runs I don't need to skim.

Great for removing flotsam!
I thought this was a gimmick at first, but took the plunge and purchased it anyway. I have been extremely impressed with the results! I have a 20,000 Gallon Screened In Pool. The pollen in Florida shakes through the screen, along with other debris, and floats on the pool surface no matter how long I run the pool. Now that I have installed the "SkimDoctor", it has removed almost all of the particulate and debris from the surface of the pool and makes the water look spotless. It is also apparent within the skimmer basket, which I use a filter sock on, because it gets full much sooner than before.
The cool part is that it takes less than 5 minutes to install and you can easily adjust the flow/velocity of water coming into the SkimDoctor/Basket by rotating the inside doors of the cylinder.
The product is awesome, but I think the price-point should be closer to $25-$30.

A worthwhile skimmer improvement.
Definitely improved my skimmers performance.
It collects floating debris from twice the distance in half the time and delivers it into the skimmer basket with enough force so there is no debris left in the skimmer well to float back into the pool when the pump shuts off. I would definitely recommend the skim doctor tp anyone who would like to increase the performance of their skimmer. I install the 3M hair nets from 2DayDeliver inside the basket to keep small debris from entering my filter cutting filter cleaning in half as well. The hair nets only cost 10 cents apiece so they are very affordable for the time they save me cleaning the filter.

on 2017-08-01 Don't expect a miracle...
As a recovering engineer, I thought this would be a cool idea. Not so much. The difference in venturi effect is negligible. It is an improvement, but ever so slight. Installation is awkward, but the instructions are ok. This might help some folks, but for me, I'm glad I only bought one (I have 3 skimmer boxes). It's on the farthest skimmer from the pump. It's helping somewhat, but it's really not remarkable. Nice that it's so tall that you don't have to reach in the basket. But that wasn't a problem for me anyway because I use this neat product in the other two. The Skimmer Angel GPIAngel Skimmer Basket Handle

It pulls the crap down into the water and to the basket or through to the filter. Nothing else I've tried does that. I'd give it 5 but when water level falls the suction pulls down air which creates bubbles that lift the unit out of place. It needs to be heavier or somehow weighted, just slightly and it'd be perfect. I don't want to place metals in my pool so a bag of sand in the basket is the best I can do though that inhibits flow. I have a 15k gallon in ground with a pentair 3hp intelliflo variable speed pump running near max 12 hours a day in SW Florida.
