I definitely recommend this!
I love it! It's so sleek and small, and the wide angle of the lens gives great coverage! The image is beautiful, and is still impressive in the dark. I got this to help the eldest of my three kitty boys, as our recent move has him a little out of sorts when I am away at work. So far, all three seem to get a kick out of it. 😸
It was very easy to set up, and the companion application is fantastic, too.
(My photo shows two of them in the dark. I will be getting a mountable tripod to put it somewhere where they won't mess with it. 😋 They were quick to find out where the laser and my voice were coming from. This photo cracks me up.)
Now that I have a tripod, this camera truly is amazing. The wide angle sees the entire room my boys and I are currently staying in, and the night vision works in total darkness. It gives me wonderful piece of mind. <3

Still a great product with great improvements!
I purchased the Petcube Play because I wanted a second monitoring device in our house for when we go on short vacation. My wife and I were quite pleased with the previous Petcube product, and we were excited to try the new features of the Petcube Play - predominately the night vision. With previous camera set ups, we could only view our pets and our home during the day, or if we had left a light on.
Improvements with this version are definitely worth the upgrade. The set-up on this version of the Petcube is easier than ever. The app gives a short walk through, and then with 2 clicks, you're connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
The HD video is quite apparent. The quality of the image and video is much improved! There is no fuzziness to the images anymore, and everything is clean and crisp. After the first day of set up, while I was at work, I was able to catch our new kitty on the table drinking out of water cups that were left on the table (this is her new habit). I quickly turned the sound on through the app and told her sternly to get off the table. She quickly jumped off the table, and attempted to find out where my voice was coming from :)
The night vision is a huge plus. The night-vision immediately kicks in when the lights get too low in the room. It works even when all the lights in the house are out. The night vision image is in grey-scale and looks just as clean and sharp as the color video.
The only downside so far is that you can only have one Petcube attached to your account. So in order to get this working, I deactivated my old Petcube from my account, activated the new Petcube on my account, and then assigned the old Petcube to my wife's account. We have set each other as friends and have shared our camera's with each other so we have full control of each camera. It's a decent work around, but it would be more convenient to be able to assign multiple cameras to one account.

Shame It Never Works
I'm really sad to give this a 1 star. At first, it started out working fairly well. I could log in from work and play "laser" with my dogs.
Then, the App received an automatic update...and it hasn't worked in MONTHS! I contacted the PetCube Facebook page and they asked if I'd downloaded the latest App version (my answer was YES) and then asked what phone I was using (Andriod, latest version)....and then they offered no more assistance.
After repeatedly trying to get it to turn on for MONTHS, I then tried re-booting it, re-installing it, and re-installing the App. Nothing has helped. What a wasted $200!

Pet and surveillance camera that just works
Petcube Play is a huge improvement compared to the previous version (Petcube Camera).
The device got significantly smaller, lighter and has much slicker design. It now uses full potential of its camera: in addition to live HD video stream it also has motion and sound detection, night vision, and record capability to store videos triggered by motion. This turns Petcube Play from just a pet care device into a home surveillance camera. The videos are stored on remote servers and remain accessible even if Petcube Play goes offline.
Video and audio quality is amazing and it takes for the app just couple of seconds to connect. You do need to be talking close to your phone mic in order for the sound from Petcube be loud, but at the same time it does great noise reduction.
Petcube Play is one of the very few devices that utilizes the new USB-C charging connector, which is reversible so you don't have to do the annoying flipping multiple times to finally plug in the charger — it's pluggable either way. The power cord that comes with the device is 9 ft (2.74m) long which gives much flexibility in camera placement if there is no power outlet right next to it.
As previous model, Petcube Play has tripod mount, which allows to position it virtually anywhere and set the required tilt for the best view.
Unlike with previous model (especially on early firmwares), the setup of Petcube Play was very smooth: everything worked out of the box, the device quickly picked up WiFi network and configured itself — the whole setup process took me about 30 seconds.
The laser also behaves significantly better, but it's still not as smooth as I'd like it to be. It has good precision after calibration: if I tap on the screen the laser will point to the right spot. However what matters the most when playing with a pet is smooth movement, and not as much precision. Laser movement is often very abrupt, especially when I play via cellular connection (which I do most of the times when I'm away). These sudden and abrupt laser movements often left my puppy quite confused, but still may be okay for a cat.
However there is a new feature in Petcube Play which makes its laser much more usable — the "Auto Play Mode". In this mode you don't need to use Petcube app to activate the laser — it will activate automatically when the camera senses movement and will play with your pet automatically. Now because random laser movements are managed by the device itself and there is no network lagging involved, the moves are very precise and smooth and got my puppy into play several times. The best thing about the feature — you don't have to do anything, Petcube Play plays automatically. Just don't forget that you enabled "Auto Play", so you don't freak out when the laser activates by itself when you are home :)
Another use case for our Petcube Play is to give it to our dog sitters whenever we are away for a while. This gives both us and our friends who take care of the puppy great peace of mind.
My overall experience with Petcube Play has been very smooth — the device just works and is very simple to use.

BEST TOY EVER - FOR CATS, DOGS, AND OWNERS!
The PetCube Play is the most exciting gadget I have purchased since the iPhone, hands down. Today, while I was waiting in line at the Home Depot, I was also playing with my 2 cats and my dog, and even got to reward them with an audible "good job!" when they "caught" the laser pointer! This device will revolutionize the way owners interact with their pets when away from home, and provide much-needed mental and physical enrichment for furry friends 24/7.
FEATURES: The PetCube can be set to turn on and start recording when it detects movement and/or sound, making it double as a security camera! It can store video for up to 10 days. The owner can control who is allowed remote access to the camera, laser pointer, and/or voice features, simply by adding that person to a list of "friends" or "family" (permissions can be set separately for each category). If the owner likes, the PetCube Play can even be set to "public" so anyone with the app can play when the PetCube is on! The box itself is small and discreet (a must for owners of curious cats, like me) and seems pretty sturdy.
HELPFUL HINT: when the PetCube is moved, it is essential that the owner re-calibrate it to ensure the accuracy of the laser pointer-smartphone connection. The first time I plugged it in, there was a lag between my finger-swipe and the laser. Later, I calibrated the laser toy and now it works like a dream, with no lag time!

Could be a great product, but hindered by subscription model
First of all, the PetCube is a well designed product and good build quality. The video quality is great and the night version is above average, though not great. The laser pointer and voice/speaker are nice touches. Purchase comes with 10 days of Petcube Care which adds additional features.
The problem with PetCube resides with its Petcube Care. Without Petcube the Care Awake/Activity Capture is limited to 10 second records and from my testing only two days of recordings are accessible (regardless of the statement that 4 hours of recording are provided with the Petcube without a Petcube Care subscription). The PetCube subscriptions start at $10 USD a month which is very expensive for the service they are providing. A subscription is required for each Petcube. Additional devices cost an additional $5 USD. In my opinion this is outrageous.
I had back this product during its original Kickstarter campaign and I have slowly witness a great product be marred with its features that were once free and placed behind a subscription wall. I can understand the subscription fee to maintain the servers, but the pricing of the subscription is not aligned with the features provided. The subscription shouldn't be more than $3-4 USD per device.

Worked great at first with no issues, then kept telling me it was "offline". Tried everything to troubleshoot and nothing! Quality isn't stable, sometimes the picture is clear sometimes it's not. So annoying to spend $200 on a product to work 2 months and suddenly stop working, especially after I had friends order for their pets as well! Interesting how the issues happened shortly after the Petcube Care Subscription ended.

Bricked itself after a few hours.
It was frustrating to set up. (Things like, I plug it in but it doesn't power on. I repeat and repeat and then on the 7th try it powers on. Bluetooth can't find it. Repeat and repeat and then it's found on the fourth try. Configure your wireless network, then on a subsequent setup screen get asked to configure your wireless again, which was a little confusing.)
It's too lacking in information/feedback/control from and on the cube itself. One cryptic LED that's poorly documented (more on that) and only one button that requires a tiny paper clip to press. Said button does... who knows? It doesn't wipe the cube when the cube bricks itself. By the way, my cube bricked itself and there's nothing I can press or do to un-brick it.
Mine was usable for a few hours; control of the laser pointer is just too laggy. I found myself just picking up the cube and waving it around like a $1 keychain laser, which I realize now would be a better investment. Two redeeming features are the camera (kinda cool to get random clips of the cat rolling around on the floor while you're away) and the AutoPlay mode, which is part entertaining and part frustrating for the cat. But those features can only redeem if the device itself is functional, which after a few hours mine was not. The LED just flashes orange, which says one thing in documentation if you search for it (nothing that ships with the packaging tells you what the various LED states mean), whereas when I called Tech Support they said it means something else. Either way, that's all it ever does now, and there's nothing I can do but send it back. Don't bother sending me a replacement (which I don't trust to be functional either), its' already too much hassle. Just gonna buy a presentation pointer at an office supply store.

Horrible connectivity issues
Wanted a pet camera to check on my puppy when I wasn’t home. Did a lot of research online and this one and Furbo kept popping up as number 1 and number 2 on multiple review websites. Customer reviews looked great for both cameras as well. I decided to bite the bullet on this one instead of Furbo because at the time Furbo was strangely out of stock on their website and amazon.
Well, this thing was pretty easy to setup but that’s about the only good thing I can say. Connection issues started immediately. There is no issue with my WiFi connection. My other home cameras worked perfectly and all of my other WiFi devices (further away than this camera) worked perfectly too. The issue was the camera.
After contacting petcube and trying to find a solution, nothing helped. It would consistently fail to connect the stream or just say “disconnected” to not allow me to try at all. Failing to connect to stream would even happen when I was home on my WiFi. And “disconnected” would also happen at home, right next to it on WiFi.
Needless to say I was not happy at all with this purchase. I initiated a return and am awaiting that to complete.
I went ahead and got a Furbo instead since it was back in stock on their website. I chose the website over amazon because they had a $50 off promotion going on. The Furbo has no connection issues and loads way faster than the petcube feed did when it would actually work. Love it.

Works great, but as many as you can afford!
Super easy to set up. The wide view captures an entire room from corner to corner, much wider than any other camera I’ve seen. Night vision works great, laser works great, picture quality is great, but sound quality isn’t perfect - you’ll hear a delayed echo on your phone when you turn sound on. Not a major issue though. The only major downside to this product is that you’ll become addicted to watching and playing with your kitties. Why would I do my job at work when I can watch my kittens sleep for 12 hours a day? Maybe the app should track how long you watch the camera for and send you polite reminders that maybe you have an unhealthy addiction...
