5 Stars By Greg M on 2017-09-25 Anker C2 is a solid dashcam with excellent video clarity! There has been an influx of dash cams over the past few years. It has become an invaluable tool for providing video evidence of what occurs during our everyday driving routines. If we are involved in an unfortunate accident, a dash cam may provide the evidence needed to prove who is at fault.
The Anker Roav C2 is a dash cam in the under $100 segment, which offers excellent video quality, simple installation, an intuitive menu, and motion activated recording for accidents or theft. The C2 is constructed from a solid metal housing and is phone like in size. The viewing screen is large enough to provide a descent viewing experience. This makes up for the lack of wifi connectivity featured in the Roav C1 dashcam. The buttons placement is on the back to the right of the viewing screen. The buttons are large enough for simple touch and feel usage. One concern owners of any dashcam may have is the potential for dashcam theft. The Roav C2 is definitely noticeable from outside of the car, due to its size. However, the Roav C1 and every other dashcam for that matter is also very noticeable from outside the car (my photo shows the size of the C2 on the left versus the C1 on the right). If you encounter an unscrupulous individual seeking to steal a dashcam, they're going to notice it on your windshield no matter the size.
Installation (5/5) (Installation Time 10 mins):
The installation of the Roav is simple. It mounts anywhere on your windshield, preferably behind the rear view mirror via the supplied 3M mounting strip or suction cup mount. There is a lever on the suction cup mount which locks and unlocks securely to the window. The ease of running the wire through your interior panels will depend upon your make and model. I ran my wires through the my roof trim, my A-pillar, and ,my glove compartment to the 12-Volt output.
The Roav automatically turns on, when the car is turned on. The C2 alerts you to install a SD card if one has not been inserted. When the car is off, the Roav enters a low power mode called parking monitor (you have the ability to turn this feature off). This mode, somewhat, adds security functionality to the camera. When the camera senses motion it will automatically start the recording function. You are able to adjust the movement sensitivity in the camera's menu. If someone breaks into your car, the Roav should capture it. One caveat, capturing a thief in action via the Roav, could be moot if the thief breaks into your car and steals your Roav, since the camera's recordings are captured locally via a micro SD card.
The Roav C2's menu system is very intuitive. The menu is simple to understand and is very responsive to touch. I experienced no delay between my menu selection and when that item appears onscreen.
Video Quality (4.5/5):
The Roav C2 is equipped with the same Sony Exmor sensor with 1080P resolution as seen on the Roav C1. Not surprisedly, the video performance of the C2 is on par to the C1, and that is a good thing. Video performance in both day and night is clear. The Roav features a wide viewing angle, I was able to clearly see all lanes of traffic in front of me. You can very easily zoom onto the license plate of the car STOPPED in front of you at a signal. However, making out license plates while your vehicle and the surrounding vehicles are in motion is next to impossible. While in motion, license plates become a blur when a vehicle is over a car length ahead of you. At night, making out the license plate is even worse. The reflective properties of the license plates washes out the readability of the numbers/letters on the license plates, which is a disappointment. Similarly, making out street signs is next to impossible since street signs also have reflective properties.
I'm absolutely pleased with Anker's Roav Dash Cam C2. Its a near perfect dash cam in the under $100 dash cam segment. However, there are a couple shortcomings that I noted during my time with the Roav C2.
First, I was a bit disappointed that the Roav C2 lacks a GPS antenna capable of speed, time and location tracking. This feature is available of the premium Roav C1 pro dash cam, but costs significant more.
Second, The Roav C2 has a 470mah built-in battery, rather than a capacitor. A capacitor increases the life of the camera and is less prone to overheating issues as has been experienced with dislodged screens on the Roav C1.
Lastly, license plates become a blur when vehicles are in motion and become unreadable when the vehicle is over a car length ahead. The higher resolution Roav C1 Pro, may improve readability of license plates.
The ROAV C2 dashcam is an excellent camera at its price point.

5 Stars By 2DayDeliver Customer on 2017-10-02 Very good product. The camera and the screen are pretty ... Very good product. The camera and the screen are pretty good. If there is a memory card inside it would be perfect! Anyway it’s good enough at the price.

5 Stars By Peter Poggi on 2018-04-04 Already paid for itself! I first ordered a Rexing but sent it back after it wouldn't set up properly or format my SD card. A friend suggested the Roav and I bought my first Roav C2 a few weeks ago. Setup was incredibly easy, 2 weeks after I installed it in my wife's Mini a young woman backed into me in a parking lot. What looked like it could be buffed out resulted in $750 in repairs. My agent said that without the video, they probably would have attributed it to both drivers, but her company acknowledged full liability. So this camera saved me increased rates, plus a $250 deductible. I immediately went out and purchased this one for my truck! It's small, discrete, and the picture is great as you can see from the video
3 Stars By Thor Hang on 2017-10-15 Great features...picture quality is substandard. But Anker tells me they can make it better with firmware updates. We'll see. Pros: Visual and voice prompts are great features. The camera tells you everything that it is doing in a clear and concise manner. It guides you through initial setup. This thing is easy to use. As long as your 12V accessory port turns on and off with the key, this thing works in the background and you don't even have to think about it. 128GB storage support is a big plus.
Cons: Night vision is not as good as the G1-W. Not even close. But the G1-W is not a reliable camera and I couldn't trust it. I owned a G1-W and sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. The G1-W certainly didn't handle the elements well. The night vision on the ROAV C2 doesn't compensate well for light and dark at night and tries hard to pick up the dark areas while saturating streetlights. In low light conditions like late evening, the ROAV C2 picks up artifacts and the picture is not as clean as I would like. The G1-W is so good at night vision that you can even pick up the clouds at night.
Reasons why I will keep the ROAV C2: Supports 128GB storage. Visual prompts. Easy to use. Extreme temperature operating range. Parking mode actually works. Parking mode on the G1-W didn't always work correctly. And the G1-W is limited to 32GB.
4 Stars By bmcguir2 on 2017-11-25 LCD screen died after 3 weeks. Update: Anker Customer Service contacted me and shipped a replacement unit, which is working great again. I've updated the review to 4 stars to reflect this. The absurdly annoying and bright blinking blue LED is still an issue that prevents a 5-star review...
Disappointed to have to leave a 1 star review. The LCD screen stopped working entirely after only 3 weeks of use. It's uniformly lit and white, with no image displayed whatsoever - the LCD is just dead. Really *really* annoying when driving at night and the 'emergency recording' function goes over when you drive over a crack in the pavement. Then you have this flashlight in your eyes for the next 60 seconds or so...
Camera still records, audio still records, but the LCD no longer works.
One other minor note: there is an absurdly annoying and bright blinking blue LED on the back facing the driver that is horribly frustrating at night with no way to turn it off. I had to put several layers of tape over it to block it out.
It's too bad, because otherwise it's a pretty decent product. But come on - 3 weeks for the control screen to die!?
3 Stars By Marco on 2018-01-17 Decent camera with important flaws 'd rate the camera a meh out of 5. It works, image quality is good at day, bad (not terrible) at night. The camera has never failed to record or damaged and SD card and I've so far used it in weather ranging from 80 to -20 F (MN weather). Parking feature is useless, it has three sensitivity modes, on high it'll fill the card with all recordings of you getting in/out of the car and on mid/low it will never activate. Emergency recording is stupidly implemented. Upon activation it will only record 30 seconds AFTER pressing instead of simply locking the current recording.
Edit. Audio is terrible. Too compressed and iffy, sometimes all you'll hear is road noise, other times it'll over saturate and it doesn't really record anything but noise
Overall I would not buy again and it simply is a stop gap until I get a better dashcam.
4 Stars By German Gary on 2017-09-18 Nice Dash Cam. Simple and Sleek. Looks good in person and on paper.
Pros: Large screen. Clean interface. Easy to navigate menu. Proper English in menu titles/options. Good button placement on device. A12 processor. (so it states) Videos are bright during the day. License plates are legible up to 10-15ft away. Micro-usb connection. Plenty of cables and tools for easy install. Great auction mount. Adjustable sound effects for different situations. Microphone is loud, crisp, and clear.
Cons It's large and looks like a digital camera. Highest resolution records in 1080p/30fps. Can't adjust exposure.
Overall: I like this dash cam. Looks nice and sleek. But this can also be an issue if you leave your dash cam mounted at all times. Kind of stands out when looking at it from outside. It's easy to navigate and setup. Menus are all in proper English and voice prompts sound exceptionally good like when it's powered on battery or recording a video.
I had a few issues that where resolved by Anker and some of which weren't really issues just things I overlooked when purchasing this unit. Anker customer support is helpful and went above and beyond to rectify my gripes.
5 Stars By Joshua on 2018-01-27 Budget single channel dash cam with high resistances to temperatures and features Update 5 months later: I have been using this dashcam daily as I am a commuter. Its quality is decent but it works and doesn't break the budget! Customer service is the best I have seen and don't hesitate to message them for anything wrong. Additionally this cam has survived repeated abuse from my sound system and still is fully functioning and records at the same quality. YouTube causes compression in the video but the raw files are pretty damn good for this price range. The night time it sort of struggles but it still is usable. Tldr: great cheap cam that is worth the purchase. + Survives bass that my rear view mirror could not!! The Good: Amazing support that will help you with any problems you come across, or reimburse you for your troubles. Awesome suction cup mount that is easy to setup or take down hassle free Wide angle lens that sees from one and a half lanes to your left and right. In the box you get a plastic "Crowbar," long usb to right angle micro usb cable, dash cam, and a dual usb IQ charger, so you could use this cam and charge your phone at the same time Tactile buttons! These are great for using the emergency recording while driving or when your watching some footage on the screen which is also a nice feature - as it is pretty big and great for seeing a lower resolution version of the recordings Has a generous amount of options for changing the vertical or horizontal angles the cam rests at
The Bad: The SD-card slot could give you issues but only minor ones, as all you have to do is make sure you insert the golden contact on the side with the screen Hard to hide as this is a semi-large sized cam. Camera can make a vibrating sound sometimes but simply moving it a little fixes it Could be hard to get the camera in the mount at first but eventually it becomes easier
Video Specifications: 1080p at 30fps / 720p at 30 or 60fps
What SD-card I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XX29S9Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 What case I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DUGZDJ4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Overall: A great budget cam with high resistance to temperatures, and easy to use tactile buttons.
4 Stars By TL on 2018-02-05 My Roav Haven't had much time with the camera, but initially it seems to work. I've been using the 720p60fps mode for a couple of day drives and everything is clear in terms of identifying make, model of cars, street signs and traffic light colors. The frame rate made the video smooth. Only issue I had was the clarity of license plates. I couldn't make out plates of oncoming traffic and cars I was following. Not giving up yet, and I will try the 1080p30fps in my upcoming drives to see if it rectifies my issues. Also as for build quality, it does seem well built for the price point. I do wish there were no chrome accents in the front. I've ended up using electrical tape to black out those areas to make it more stealthier from the outside. This seemed to knock down reflection and glare.
3 Stars By Andrew Christian on 2018-06-05 Great if you don't live in the heat, Updated So I will start by saying the unit itself is reasonably well built. Works as designed. Met my expectations in most areas except for one.
The product is marketed as "EXTREME HEAT RESISTANT" and that can't be further from the truth. I admittedly live in Houston, TX which gets very hot in the summers. It regularly gets over 100F here and the car is black so that doesn't help. This unit has expanded and bent so that there is no way to mount it forward properly any longer. It now has a large bulge and has expanded past the "steel frame" to permanently deform the product.
If you live in a climate where it gets very hot, I suggest you skip this dash cam. Wasted money.
Update: Roav reached out and has replaced the damaged unit free of charge. Will change my rating if the new unit lasts through the Texas summer.
3 Stars By James S. on 2018-02-12 Suction cup mount great for rental cars Decided to try this as a less expensive alternative to the dashcams I have in my cars, and for when I need a temporary application - rental cars. This one stuck out because of the suction cup mount - no adhesive gunk on back, easy to get on/off of a windshield. In addition to the camera and mount, an Anker SmartIQ dual USB car charger and a "charging-only" micro USB cable come in the box. There are options to automatically turn off the screen, trigger recording to a special folder on the micro SD card (one-click button on the face of the cam), turn the mic off (also one-click), video format (720P at either 30 or 60 fps, 1080p at 30 fps), among other exciting things.
Conveniently enough, I was able to test it out in a rental car over the past weekend. One of the selling points plastered all over the front of the cam is "capture license plates clearly." This is the case when you're still and lighting is good... which doesn't happen often when you're driving A number of things can screw that up - movement, precipitation, lights shining on the rear-bumper mounted plate of the car in front of you. Relative to other dashcams I've tried (BlackVue 450 and 750), the image quality while moving leaves quite a bit to be desired. But - it's also a cheap dashcam - 1/4 the price of the 450 and 1/8 of the price of the 750 (but missing a second channel, quality video, and wifi gimmicks).
The video attached to this review has a few clips - one during daytime highway driving with highway-speed passes, one during city driving with heavy precipitation and many, many bumps, and another late night driving. All taken at 1080P/30FPS. During the video, I had the night vision enhancement feature set to "Panorama." Other options include license plate mode and balance mode (still need to play around with those to see how they look). 2DayDeliver video encoding is leaving a bit to be desired, so I'm attaching a still from the video under ideal conditions (mid-day, cloudy, with a road sign and a car passing me with license plate in clear view, but still unreadable).
Given the price and portability, I'm not terribly upset. I would go for something with a little better video quality for a permanent/hardwire application, but it gets the job done for a rental.
4 Stars By Jitka Bubenickova on 2017-09-20 good for the price So...after so many youtube reviews i was decided to get A119S. On one of the reviews I noticed pretty good performance of OP/A dash cam with ambarellaA12 chipset.I thought that this RoavC2 should be even better than everything on the market with the ambarella chip set and..... especially with sony exmor sensor.Well...I was wrong. The clarity/colors and sharpness isn't any better than my old garmin 20.The videos looks really good at night though. The 145 wide lens is just about right. The only reason why I didn't replace my old garmin with garmin was the price. Not sure if it was good decision because with extended warranty you can't go wrong. It would be nice to compare some cameras by myself and not by the videos on youtube. This camera is much more noticeable than many other cameras I've seen. The camera mount could be little better but I'll make it work(having issues placing it next to the mirror and hiding it from being seen from outside).I don't need wi-fi or more apps in my phone so I don't mind to remove the micro sd if its necessary. The menu is clear.Emergency recording button is there and the camera start recording as soon as you turn the key on.that is basically what I need.
